Attendance Policy and Make-up Work
Regular and punctual attendance is required for all scheduled class sessions and clinical/externship rotations. Davis Training Institute maintains strict attendance standards to ensure students receive the complete educational experience necessary for certification and employment success.
Class Attendance Requirements
Students are expected to attend all scheduled classes. Excessive absences may result in academic probation or withdrawal from the program. The school monitors attendance carefully to ensure compliance with Texas Workforce Commission regulations and to maintain program quality.
Clinical and Externship Attendance
For students enrolled in programs with clinical or externship components:
- Regular and punctual attendance on all clinical days is required
- Absences or tardiness from clinical for reasons other than health or emergencies will not be tolerated
- Students may be subject to withdrawal from the program if more than two absences are recorded
- Chronic tardiness may result in dismissal from the program
- All absences, regardless of excuse, must be made up by the student
- Students must coordinate make-up days with both the instructor and the clinical site
Notification Requirements
Students must notify both the clinical site and the instructor of all absences or tardiness:
- Notification must be provided as far in advance as possible
- At minimum, notification must be made within the first hour of scheduled attendance
- Clinical sites are extremely intolerant of excessive absences and tardiness and may dismiss students from the site
Tardiness Policy
- A student who is late by 5 minutes or more will be considered officially tardy
- Three official tardies will constitute one absence
- Clinical sites maintain zero-tolerance policies for tardiness and may dismiss students for excessive tardies
Make-Up Work
- All missed coursework, assignments, and clinical hours must be completed
- Students are responsible for obtaining missed lecture materials and assignments
- Make-up arrangements must be coordinated through the instructor
- Clinical make-up days must be scheduled in advance with both instructor and site supervisor
Consequences of Poor Attendance
Failure to maintain satisfactory attendance may result in:
- Academic probation
- Inability to complete required clinical hours
- Withdrawal from the program
- Ineligibility for certification examination
- Dismissal from clinical site
