DTI 301 – Introduction to Healthcare

Credit Hours: 0.5 | Contact Hours: 8 Lecture | Phase: 1 (Weeks 1–2)

Course Description:
This foundational course introduces students to the structure and function of the U.S. healthcare system. Topics include the roles of healthcare professionals, types of medical facilities, levels of care, and the flow of patients through various healthcare environments. Emphasis is placed on professional conduct, patient interaction, healthcare delivery models (HMOs, PPOs, etc.), and the cultural, ethical, and legal responsibilities of administrative staff.

Students will explore how healthcare teams operate, the importance of interprofessional communication, and the basic components of patient-centered care. This course also serves to orient students to the expectations of working in both outpatient and inpatient settings.

Learning Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of DTI 301, students will be able to:

  • Describe the organization of the healthcare system in the U.S.

  • Identify key roles of healthcare professionals and support staff

  • Explain common delivery models and facility types (e.g., hospitals, clinics, urgent care)

  • Demonstrate an understanding of patient pathways and healthcare navigation

  • Understand the importance of professionalism, confidentiality, and ethical behavior in the healthcare office

To meet state and national standards, Davis Training Institute is transitioning all students to the official CMAA curriculum. This ensures full alignment with the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) exam, externship requirements, and compliance with the Texas Workforce Commission.
Will I lose my progress or grades?
No. All completed work, grades, and attendance will be preserved and mapped to the corresponding sections in the new course structure.
Do I have to start over?
No. You will continue where you left off. Any completed lessons will be marked as “complete” in the new course or credited manually.
What is the new course structure?
DTI 301–304: Healthcare Foundations

DTI 305–308: Office Skills & Technology

DTI 309–310: Certification Prep & Capstone

Externship Placement (36 hours in a medical office)
Do I need to re-enroll?
No action is needed on your part. The LMS Administrator will migrate your account and unlock your new lessons automatically.
How will I know when the new course is ready?
You will receive a notification by email and in the LMS dashboard with instructions and your updated course schedule.
